Sports Betting
Sports betting is fun and a great way to enjoy the games and make some
money.Even betting a friend or relative on a game is exciting and makes the
game that much more interesting. In general, most wagers are done at
sportbooks in casinos or online sportsbooks like Beted.com or
Bodog.com.Sportsbooks usually offer two types of wagers for sporting events;the
first is a moneyline bet the second is a point spread wager.

Moneylines
Moneylines are based on fixed odds that are set by the bookmaker.Odds on sports
such as baseball, hockey, soccer and boxing (UFC) use moneylines.Sportsbooks or
bookmakers typically use moneylines that are used in terms to win on a $100
favorite or the amount used for a $100 bet on a underdog.If a bettor wins a $200
bet from a $100 wager he will be paid by the bookmaker $300 (i.e. $200 plus the
initial bet of $100).An example of this is a baseball game between the New York
Yankees and Chicago Whitesox might have a moneyline on Yankees (the favorite)
at -200 and Chicago (the underdog) at +180. A bettor betting on the Yankees must
risk $200 for every $100 he wishes to win over and above the initial $200 bet. A
person wagering on Chicago will win $180 for every $100 he bets.Moneyline
wagers only require the team wagered on to win the game.

Point Spreads
Point spreads are more popular in the NFL and NBA although money line odds
are available. The wager usually put on a point spread is $110 to win a
$100.Bettors betting on the favorite only collect if their team wins by the margin
set at the time of the bet (which can change).Underdog bettors can collect even
when their team loses, as long as they win against the point spread by losing by
fewer points that was given at the time of the bet.For example, suppose that a
college football game between MIAMI and OHIO had MIAMI as a 17 point favorite
(quoted as OHIO -17, or MIAMI +17):

If MIAMI defeats OHIO by more than 17 points, they have covered the spread
and bettors on MIAMI would receive $100 on a $110 bet. OHIO bettors lose the
$110 they wagered.
If OHIO defeats MIAMI, bettors on OHIO would receive $100 on a $110 bet.
MIAMI bettors lose the $110 they wagered.
If OHIO loses by less than 17 points, they have won against the spread. Bettors
on both sides are then treated exactly as if OHIO had won the game.
If MIAMI wins by exactly 17 points, the wager is called a "push", and neither
side wins. The guidelines in most sportsbooks is to return the bet of all bettors
on the game in full. To prevent pushes and ensure that they receive their
commission on losing wagers, bookmakers often set point spreads that include
a half-point.

OVER/UNDER
OVER/UNDER is a wager in which a bettor predicts the combined total(also
called totals)score of a game.A game like Miami and Ohio could have a
total of 56 you could select over this amount or under. The linesmakers will
usually use 1/2 spreads to avoid pushes.
